Connection and community engagement. The issues our communities are facing are so much larger than us individually. AIA provides a platform and opportunity to connecting with a diverse group of people across professions, learn, and contribute to the design potential of our city.

WHERE IST HE FIELD OF ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING, OR CONSTRUCTION HEADED?

Its such an interesting time for the AEC industry. The adoption of AI and increased utilization of automation are rapidly transforming the ways we conceive, approach and deliver projects and will only continue to disrupt and revolutionize the field. My hope is that this will lead to more intelligent, equitable and regenerative projects that shape the next phase(s) of our city.

HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING?

I get to work closely with a group of talented, diverse individuals to establish and implement design direction for projects that directly and positively impact the lives of the members of our communities. Or, to my daughter, I draw pretty pictures and figure out nice ways of keeping water outside.

WHAT PROJECT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?

Currently, I’m working on a couple large projects, a behavioral health facility in Lakewood, and the renovation of the existing S Concourse at the airport.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO CONTRIBUTE FROM YOUR WORK?

Thoughtful, creative, and enduring solutions that positively impact people.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TODAY?

Brick pavers. Tree roots had gradually displaced them, forming small rolling hills within the sidewalk.

CAN DESIGN SAVE THE WORLD?

Not on its own, but it does have the power to influence and inform decisions and policies addressing world issues.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE SEATTLE-AREA STRUCTURE?

Even though its 20 years old, I still love the Seattle Public Library!
