This one-hour presentation provides architects with practical strategies for designing and retrofitting homes to withstand a range of emergencies, including extreme weather events, earthquakes, wildfires, floods, and infrastructure failures.
With local emergency specialists recommending that Seattle area residents be prepared for up to two weeks without utilities or external support, this session explores architectural approaches that improve a home’s resilience to the loss of power, water, and natural gas. The program also addresses long term climate related challenges and highlights how resilient design can enhance occupant safety, health, and well being.
The Small Practice and Residential Committee (SPARC) meets the third Thursday of every month at 12pm. AIA Seattle members, allied members, and sponsors are encouraged to join, as well as professionals in the design community.
