Emerging Professionals Travel Scholarship

AIA Seattle’s Emerging Professionals Travel Scholarship seeks to expand the experience and leadership opportunities of young professionals, encourage cross-cultural dialogue in the profession and share knowledge from architecture practice around the globe with members in Puget Sound.

Through a $5,000 grant, the scholarship supports travel for the purposes of research and for an exhibition in the Center for Architecture & Design.

Eligibility

AIA or Associate AIA members who have graduated from an accredited architecture program within the last 7 years.

Criteria

The Fellows and Honors Committee awards scholarship funds based on proposals. Proposals should demonstrate the project’s creativity, feasibility impact and outcomes.

The Committee requests proposals from qualifying individuals highlighting their travel plans and outlining their area of study and investigation. The proposed travel and study program must address the built environment and have relevance and application to design issues faced by Seattle and the Pacific Northwest. The scholarship recipient will be expected to return to Seattle and publicly present the results and content of their travel and study to the Committee and AIA Seattle members. Preference will be given to projects that produce a tangible product available to all local members, such as an exhibition, magazine article, program or publication.

Support

The Emerging Professionals Travel Scholarship is funded by generous contributions from Seattle-area Fellows of the American Institute of Architects (FAIAs) and AIA members. Support the Travel Scholarship by making a contribution today!

Timeline

The Call for Submissions typically goes out in October, and proposals are due early in the new year.  The Scholarship winner is announced in February for travel between June and December of the same year. Final report and presentation are due soon after travel.
