WHAT IS THE VALUE OF AIA TO YOU?

AIA advances the profession of architecture holistically for an individual architect, small practice, or the industry. The sharing of resources and advocacy efforts that promote the highest standards of design and ethics in architecture are critical to our practice, and for establishing and maintaining relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors. AIA has developed a collaborative approach to ensure the profession maximizes our positive impact on the built environment and our communities.

HOW DO YOU EXPLAIN WHAT YOU DO FOR A LIVING?

Years ago, I shifted from being directly engaged in project architecture to leading the business side of the practice. This shift helped me discover my passion in supporting the skill development of architects and furthering their ability to create great results and impact in the work they do for our clients and in our communities. Realizing those moments have been the most fulfilling part of my career.

CAN DESIGN SAVE THE WORLD?

Design is a powerful tool for solving problems and generating ideas. However, it is people who create real change. The creativity fundamental to design is crucial to this process, but it is the work and decisions of people that will be the driving force in creating meaningful and positive advancements in the world.

WHAT PROJECT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?

One project at MG2 that I am really excited about is the near completion of the Costco Corporate Headquarters Building in Issaquah. Our team is doing an amazing job on this project and has really created a transformative space for our client that interconnects with their existing campus buildings.

HAS YOUR CAREER TAKEN YOU ANYWHERE YOU DIDN’T EXPECT?

My whole career was unexpected! One constant has been my desire to work with people who are motivated and truly enjoy working together to deliver great results for clients. That underlining desire infused with our culture and has led MG2 to where we are today. The way we have elevated in the industry and expanded since I started over 30 years ago is nothing I could have imagined.

WHERE IS THE FIELD OF ARCHITECTURE, ENGINEERING, OR CONSTRUCTION HEADED?

The field is on the threshold of significant change. This change is driven by the advancement of technology and how it can facilitate a more progressive path in the practice. I am eager to see how this technology allows us to have an even bigger impact on smart development and how it will facilitate positive advancements in our built environment and communities.
