Committee Meeting: Committee on Homelessness

Featuring a presentation of the design of a Transitional Housing Tiny House Village

Join COHO’s hybrid October meeting as they welcome two special guests: Laura Malkasian Huggins, an architect with Alexandra Immel Residential Design, and Dave Gamrath, a longtime volunteer with Sound Foundations.

Sound Foundations builds most of the tiny homes used in tiny house villages that provide transitional housing for people exiting homelessness. Both Laura and Dave are based in Seattle and have been strong advocates for tiny house villages throughout the region. Interested in bringing the tiny house village model to Tucson, Dave partnered with Laura and a group of architecture students from the University of Arizona to develop designs for a pilot project.

Hear from Laura and Dave as they share their experience working to launch a tiny house village in Tucson. Their presentation will explore Tucson’s homelessness crisis, the challenges of establishing a tiny house village in a new community, and the important role architects and architecture students played in moving the project forward. This will be a hybrid presentation delivered at HKS offices (400 University St Ste 600, Seattle, WA 98101) with the option for attendees to join virtually. Light refreshments will be served.
