Adaptation & Resilience Committee
The Adaptation & Resilience Committee (formerly the Disaster Preparedness & Response Committee) informs and designs professional action in preparing for and responding to stressors and shocks that communities may face.
Ongoing activities include offering seminars and workshops to prepare design professionals to serve our communities and clients, as well as preparing for and participating in recovery efforts. Adaptation & Resilience hosts Safety Assessment Program (SAP) evaluator trainings in the Puget Sound area, and assists in training throughout Cascadia. The Committee coordinates with local agencies, including the Office of Emergency Management, the Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections, the Office of Planning & Community Development, and similar regional county and state agencies. Much of our work occurs in collaboration with SEAW (structural engineers) and ASCE (civil engineers) in order to best leverage a coordinated effort.
All efforts have the ultimate goal of creating greater resilience in our communities through building a network of architects to help before and after a disaster.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
The Committee meets virtually the first Tuesday of every month at 12pm online. To receive upcoming meeting and event details, subscribe to our email list, and check the event listings on this page.
