Daryl Fonslow, PE, LEED AP
Daryl wears many hats―Seattle office lead, spearheading our brand and cultivating our local office culture as well as leading the electrical group in the Seattle office. He has served as principal in charge for projects across the higher education, science and technology, commercial, airport, and civic sectors. With his love of the outdoors, Daryl figures it’s no surprise that he lives in the Pacific Northwest. If you catch him outside of work and business development, you might find him backpacking, kayaking, paddle boarding, or fishing.
What Inspired You Today?
My son inspires me every day with keeping things simple, honest, and sustainable. Nothing like a 5-year-old to keep you present in the moment and motivated to leave this world ideally better for our future generations.
What Do You Hope To Contribute from Your Work?
One of my first projects after joining Stantec was the Bill and Melinda Gates Center for Computer Science and Engineering on the University of Washington’s Seattle Campus. For me, the project was all about maximizing value to the STEM pipeline that feeds the engineering industry. I’m naturally drawn to Higher Education projects because of how formative those years can be. Being able to contribute to that experience through the built environment is priceless to me.
What Project Are You Working On Now?
My focus over the last 10 years has been exploring nuances in the various alternate project delivery methods. I’m wrapping up design on a progressive-design build project with Gensler and Mortenson to bring a new basketball operations facility to reality for the University of Washington Huskies. The thing I appreciate most about this project is the team is so aligned in core values and providing the best possible outcomes for each other.
How Do You Explain What You Do for a Living?
I design the power systems that energize the buildings we use every day. It’s concealed behind walls and hidden behind doors that say “WARNING – HIGH VOLTAGE”, but all those elements we rely to keep the heat running and lights on.
