Chris brings over 16 years of experience to NK, previously owning his own residential architecture practice. As COO, he oversees operations and implements goals and vision set by the Board and CEO, while creating an environment where NK’s employees and clients can do their best work.
I joined AIA Seattle to foster new connections with my peers and add my voice to the work done by the organization on our behalf.
Clients and colleagues alike understand AIA membership. It underscores a commitment to continued growth as an architect advancing state-of-the-art design innovations in the profession, and advocating for the quality of our built environment.
It’s a tough call between the Seattle Library and the Chapel of St. Ignatius.
It’s no longer enough that our designs are beautiful. It’s essential that we lead the way in making buildings efficient, healthy and durable. Codes will continue to push in this direction, but those who understand and provide these services now will be in a position to lead the industry, instead of follow.
As a Principal leading NK Architects’ townhome studio, I’ve been fortunate to work with several great clients in the Puget Sound region. Some of my favorite projects in production now mix ground-level townhouses and live/work spaces over a shared parking podium to create dense, urban developments on complicated sites. These projects are great because they meet the market’s need for parking without the noise or loss of amenity areas associated with private garages. As NK’s new COO, I’m excited to manage and improve our firm’s operations so we can deliver on our mission to create exemplary, valuable projects though great design and Passive House construction.
With the recent transition to COO, and having spent my career working with buildings, I’m excited about the opportunity to focus on leading a team of talented people who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo.
My daughter says that I design great houses for people. I usually explain my work as designing urban residential projects that are well crafted, high-performing and deliver excellent value to our clients.
Buildings generate about 40% of the nation’s greenhouse gases. By ensuring that new construction and remodeling projects meet high-performance design standards such as Passive House, and by keeping our cities dense and vibrant to reduce our dependence on automobiles, architects play a leading role in making tomorrow better for everyone.
I want to help build spaces in our cities that energize people, homes that bring them joy and comfort, and do this in a way that preserves our communities and our resources for generations to come.
Life moves fast, enjoy it now.
