How Design Makes Impacts - Forum 1: The Power of Grassroots Design and Crafts
The first session of a two-Installment forum series sharing stories and experience from designers, craftsmen and grassroots community leaders on the social impacts they are making through their hands on work.
AIA Seattle’s Asian American Designers Union (AADU) is hosting a series of forums spotlighting individuals and groups who are creating positive social impacts by their day-by-day practice as a professional designer, via a platform they created for craftsmen and designers to make a voice, through training and mentoring community members to design and build for their dream life, etc.
In the first installment of the forum, Ming-Ming Tung-Edelman from Refugee Artisan Initiative (RAI) and Sam Schultz from Sawhorse Revolution will join the conversation to share perspectives as leaders of NPOs on their motivations, goals, achievements and challenges. The discussion will center on the topic of “design FOR the grassroots and BY the grassroots” and draw inspiration on how community-based projects are nurturing their own origins.
This program is hosted by AIA Seattle’s Asian American Designers Union (AADU). Conceived as a support system that connects, empowers, and advocates for Asian American designers here in the Seattle area, AADU assists in promoting diversity and equality within the architecture and design field, and connects professionals from different industries—within the US and abroad—to foster relationships and shared experiences.
