Integrating Resilience and Design Across Scales
AIA Seattle Adaptation and Resilience Committee is hosting a series of panel discussions during 2022 to highlight current regional resilience efforts in architecture & planning through difference project types – Public Realm, Infrastructure, Building.
This second session in the series on Resilience and Adaptation will be a conversation on infrastructure and water resilience.
It is essential to protect our communities water resources. In our next conversation, we will be discussing water infrastructure and resilience at different scales : a newly constructed water infrastructure project, and a local water plan.
Colleen Petilla will present the AIA award winning Murray Wet Weather Facility, a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) project near Lowman Park Beach in West Seattle. This new King County facility was designed to protect public health and water quality during heavy rains.
Leslie Webster will present Seattle Public Utilities’ Shape Our Water plan. Shape Our Water is a community-centered project by Seattle Public Utilities to plan for the next 50 years of resilient drainage and wastewater systems. As we face powerful forces like climate change and rapid growth, future investments in water systems will transform our city.
Sean Cryan will present Longfellow Starts Here, a community focused project to improve the sewer system in South Delridge community (South Delridge, Roxhill, Westwood, Highland Park, Riverview, and Puget Ridge neighborhoods) as well as reduce pollution in Longfellow Creek. Working with Seattle Public Utilities, the design is focused on improving water quality in Longfellow Creek, investing in meaningful infrastructure, and meeting the needs of the South Delridge community.
Presentations will leave time for attendee Q&A with a focus on improving awareness and participation by the design & construction community in targeting resilience in our region.
