COTE: Decarbonizing Healthcare

While hospitals are designed first and foremost around promoting human health, they also are inexorably linked to the broader infrastructure and environment in which they sit. The healthcare industry accounts for roughly 10% of carbon emissions in the United States and will continue to play a major role in the national carbon landscape. This presentation aims to unpack the healthcare specific design challenges that drive carbon emissions, and discusses the approach healthcare providers and designers can take to reduce their carbon impact. Our speakers bring a unique perspective and healthcare experience ranging from research and high performance design to facility operations and corporate carbon strategy.
