Code Evolutions: Get In – Get Out: Circulation Design for Graceful Access and Egress
Requirements for accessibility and for egress each have their own separate code chapters and federal standards, and are typically taught in separate code seminars, even though both accessibility and egress utilize the same doors, ramps, corridors and other elements. In this session of our Code Evolutions series we will consider each circulation component in turn from both of those viewpoints. In addition, circulation elements significantly impact the human experience of the building, but have not always received the same design attention given to other aspects of architecture. We will discuss design considerations for each of those elements, and how developing all three together – accessibility, egress and human experience – can provide a graceful, safe and intuitive movement system that serves all of the building’s users.
Registration Close Date: Wednesday, November 29, 2017
