We have a new opportunity to join our team in either our Portland or Seattle location making a critical impact to our success and our communities. We are looking for the right candidate to help creatively integrate and propel our materials research and advocacy into everyday firm-wide project documentation and staff expertise. This is an exciting chance to collaboration with our senior technical staff, guiding and supporting our project teams with the latest understanding of high-performance materials and technologies, including the prioritization of healthy, low embodied carbon, responsibly sourced, fully disclosed building products.

In this role, you will work with project teams and integrated practice leaders to:

  • Support maintenance of firm-wide master specifications, including the research of emerging building materials and environmental impacts through all phases of development, including construction administration
  • Support teams in the preparation of project specifications using preferred building products
  • Understand building codes, standards, and sustainable building certification program requirements
  • Coordinate with product vendors, suppliers, and design team partners to actualize our material screening criteria
  • Collaborate with design staff to support our physical and digital material libraries
  • Facilitate ongoing continuous improvement with staff through established feedback loops

Required experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Interiors, or related field
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience
  • Knowledge of sustainable design practices and building certification programs; LEED, Living Building Challenge, or WELL
  • Curiosity and desire to optimize building performance through technical innovations
  • Commitment to knowledge sharing and outreach

Preferred experience:

  • Sustainable design accreditation; LEED or WELL AP, LFA
  • Specification writing, including use of software such as BSD SpecLink Cloud (or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with material ingredient disclosure programs and databases; HPD, Declare, C2C, Mindful Materials
