Housing Advocacy Committee

This committee creates a space for members to connect, learn, and take action on key housing issues.

The Housing Advocacy Committee works directly with the AIA Seattle Public Policy Board to ensure architects shape the chapter’s policy positions and advocacy strategies.

Purpose

The AIA Seattle Housing Advocacy Committee serves three purposes:

  • Engage members to support advocacy efforts aligned with AIA Seattle’s Housing Policy Statement and our Housing Imperative
  • Promote the interests of architects and built environment professionals for the development of housing
  • Provide AIA Seattle members a learning and resource sharing space for key issues that impact housing

Goals

  • Promote principles embedded in AIA Seattle’s Housing Policy Statement including increasing housing density everywhere, keeping equitable solutions at the forefront, and developing livable communities
  • Amplify the voices of members by fostering member engagement in the development of AIA Seattle positions and tactics, and encouraging participation in advocacy opportunities
  • Influence Policy Development: Collaborate with local elected officials and municipal staff on housing-related legislation and policies
  • Provide space for resource and information sharing for members: Connect members with each other, relevant resources, and partner organizations

Committee Activities

The AIA Seattle Housing Advocacy Committee engages in several key activities, including:

  • Monthly one-hour virtual meetings, open to all AIA Seattle members (details below)
  • Meetings with local government staff to provide professional input
  • Participating in advocacy opportunities, such as testifying on housing policy or responding to legislation with guidance from the AIA Seattle Advocacy Manager
  • Hosting or joining educational events, often in collaboration with AIA Seattle’s Public Policy Board or external partners

How to Get Involved

The Housing Advocacy Committee typically meets once per month for one hour via Zoom (every second Thursday from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM). Meetings are open to all AIA Seattle members interested in advancing housing solutions through advocacy.

AIA Seattle members, allied professionals, and partners are all encouraged to participate. Living in Seattle is not required as our meetings are remote and accessible from anywhere.

Let’s work together to shape the future of housing in our region.
