Construction Tour: Westland Hotel
Join the Young Architects Forum for a construction tour of the Westland Hotel
In converting the Westland Building, a historic steam-supply warehouse into a hotel, our team consisting of Urban Villages, Inc.(UVI), Curioso, Aparium Hotel Group, and JTM construction is revitalizing a historic railspur corridor and public alley intersection to create new ways to experience age-old buildings and infrastructure in Pioneer Square. Between integrating new building code legislation and amended zoning ordinances with the design, this project builds a unique bridge between the past and present and ensures a healthier future through adaptive reuse.
The Westland Hotel consists of a 120 room boutique hotel, with an eating and drinking establishment that reactivates the ‘railspur’ alley and at-grade multi-use spaces to activate the King St. frontage. New land-use regulations along with new mass timber codes allowed the team to add a second eating and drinking establishment on the rooftop. The seismic improvements along with the preservation of the historic timber columns and beams ensure that the structure will continue to stand long into the future.
