AIA Northwest Washington + Mass Timber Committee: StructureCraft DowelLam Tour

The Mass Timber Committee and AIA Northwest Washington, have collaborated to organize a tour of StructureCraft’s headquarters in Abbottsford, British Columbia, where they make DowelLam, their dowel-laminated timber.
This presentation explores the art and science of inspired structural design, emphasizing how engineering can harmonize beauty, efficiency, and sustainability. By allowing the structure itself to help inform the concept, we craft designs that are not only innovative but also deeply connected to their environment. We will delve into strategies for designing sustainably, focusing on the most structurally efficient use of materials to reduce waste and environmental impact. Through case studies and examples, the presentation highlights how thoughtful engineering creates beautiful structures that people love to own and use. Attendees will leave with actionable insights into achieving designs that inspire and perform.
There will be a lunchtime presentation followed by a factory tour. Lunch is being provided by AIA, with different options provided to meet dietary restrictions. Preferred lunch option is available for selection at time of registration. For those who want to network after, there will be a no-host happy hour.

ACCESSIBILITY
Transportation will not be provided by AIA due to the logistical challenges crossing the border. All attendees are encouraged to use public transportation where possible and carpool.
