Seattle Design Festival: PARK(ing) Day
PARK(ing) Day Plus+ is an opportunity for Seattleites to temporarily turn on-street parking spaces into public places. Locations will be all over Seattle, Friday 9/16 and Saturday 9/17, 10am - 6pm. Part of our 6th annual Seattle Design Festival, which runs September 10-23.
PARK(ing) Day Plus+ happens once a year on the third Friday in September, and this year it falls right in the middle of the 2016 Seattle Design Festival (September 10-23)! This international event raises awareness about the importance of a walkable, livable, healthy city and helps people re-think how our streets can be used. Last year’s PARK(ing) Day was Seattle’s biggest yet, with 50 pop-up parks across the city. Visitors played life-size Jenga in Pioneer Square, made their own smoothies in West Seattle, and listened to stories at the “banned books” library in Belltown. Awards in several categories will be announced on social media. Free and open to the public. Families are welcome and encouraged. Presented by City of Seattle Department of Transportation and Washington Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (WASLA).
