Density & Affordable Housing: Info Session on Seattle's HALA/MHA and D/ADU Proposals

Seattle is moving forward with city-wide proposed zoning changes to increase density as a way to mitigate escalating housing costs and provide more affordable housing.  What will this look like “on the ground”? As an architect, your informed opinion is important in the call for responses (by August 7) to the MHA Draft Environmental Impact Study.

Join us for an overview of the HALA /MHA proposals regarding urban village upzoning and of proposed revisions to D/ADU regulations.  Then participate in dialogue on the implications with in-the-know AIA members Rick Mohler and Marty Kaplan. We expect this to be a lively conversation!

Rick and Marty are both practicing architects focused on single family residential work.  Rick is an associate Arch professor at UW, UW faculty representative to City University Community Advisory Council (CUCAC), a 2015-16 Affiliate Fellow at the UW Runstad Center for Real Estate Studies, and past vice president and chair of land use, Madrona Community Council. He is co-chair of AIA Seattle’s Public Policy Board and a long-time advocate of increased density. Marty is a former long-time Seattle Planning Commission member; he is chair of the Queen Anne Community Council Land Use Review Committee, which filed a successful suit last year to require the city to conduct an EIS on Mayor Murray and Councilmember O’Brien’s DADU Legislation.
