NWW: Green Building Nerds - Building Envelope & Energy Code

Get an inside look at Fairhaven Towers and join the project team to learn more about the building envelope requirements related to air barriers and other control layers, fenestration, and testing of these components as driven by Washington Energy Code and project specifications, and how third-party quality assurance is helping them reach their goals.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe energy code requirements related to air barrier details and testing, and code changes coming in July, when parts of 2018 WSEC go into effect and other parts of 2015 WSEC will be updated.
  • Discuss air barrier testing to understand what is involved based on various building types, when a project is ready and how to prepare for testing.
  • Identify fenestration test methods typically referenced in project specifications, how they vary for window types and where they typically fail.
  • Illustrate the value of 3rd-party quality assurance regarding envelope details; WRB continuity, water & vapor control layers, material compatibility, installation quality to ensure project longevity and quality.
