This Is What An Architect Looks Like w/ WID and DRT
Join Women in Design and Diversity Roundtable at the Seattle Design Fesitval Block Party!
As designers, we change the world every day. We want to encourage people of every background to imagine themselves as Architects and designers of their community. Our profession needs a diversity of experiences and imaginations to grow and continue to be relevant. We strive to break the stereotype of the Architect that persists even today. Visitors to our installation will be invited to play a matching game involving photographs of real life architects in Seattle. They will try to match a childhood photo with a professional photo. Most of the architects on our play board will be women and people of color to challenge the public’s assumptions of what an architect looks like. We strive to encourage children, above all, to envision themselves as designers of their own environment. The flipside of the display will also give visitors an opportunity to envision what they might like to do if they were an architect.
