Join @drt_aiaseattle for the August committee meeting. This month, we'll be hearing from Casey Huang of Mithun about the Liberty Bank Building in Seattle, WA. The meeting will be available both in-person and virtually via Zoom.
- Firm and Project Description:
- Mithun is an integrated design firm dedicated to creating positive change in people’s lives. As a national practice with offices in Seattle, San Francisco and LA, we are a unified design studio with an open and collaborative spirit founded on a process of inquiry and listening.
- Project Overview: Liberty Bank Building is a mixed-use affordable housing in Seattle’s Central District, developed by a partnership between Africatown Community Land Trust, the Black Community Impact Alliance, Community Roots Housing and Byrd Barr Place. Located on the site of the former Liberty Bank, the first bank west of the Mississippi River dedicated to serving the African American community, this project honors a rich history and cultural significance. Community recommendations were essential to the project design, which incorporates salvaged elements from the original bank, exterior colors and patterns inspired by Afrocentric design, and work by local artists.
