AHC Spring 2025 | Sustainable Horizons: Advancing Healthcare Design for a Greener Future

Join the Architecture for Health Committee (AHC) for the annual AHC Spring Conference!
As healthcare facilities work toward a more sustainable future, the adoption of clean energy and resilient design presents both opportunities and challenges. This conference will explore how healthcare systems can integrate sustainability while balancing operational demands, financial constraints, and regulatory requirements. Through expert insights and real-world case studies, we’ll examine the technologies, policies, and strategies driving greener, more efficient healthcare environments.
This program is presented by AIA Seattle’s Architecture for Health Committee. Please contact Anthony Collins with any questions or concerns.

SPEAKERS
Aimee Chan, Principal, Design, Smith Group | With a degree in sociology as well as architecture, Aimee is intrigued by the study of people and how we are affected by our environment. “I want to go beyond the physical structure and focus on shaping experiences, influencing thoughts and evoking emotions in the built environment,” Aimee explains. “I am merely the curator of elements, challenged to create spatial, holistic and multi-dimensional experiences.” She describes architecture as a bridge, a way to explore music, poetry, art and sciences, and how they can be integrated into different forms. Aimee is a classically trained pianist and can also draw upon her worldly upbringing for inspiration, being a citizen of several countries. She loves learning about different cultures and her ideal escape is to Japan with her family, to “eat delicious food, enjoy onsen, and see cool art and architecture.”
Andy Drissell, Project Architect/Designer/Medical Planner, Mahlum | Andy approaches architecture with curiosity, seeing each project as an opportunity to enhance community well-being. Since joining Mahlum in 2015, he has led healthcare and K-12 projects, bringing expertise in design, medical planning, and stakeholder coordination. Passionate about research-driven design, he fosters collaboration across Mahlum’s studios and engages community members and experts. His work on circadian lighting in healthcare was featured in Medical Construction & Design magazine. Andy holds a Master of Architecture from the University of Kansas and is a registered architect in Washington, an ACHA Board-Certified healthcare architect, EDAC-certified, and a LEED-Accredited Professional.
Marshall Andrews, Northwest Sustainability Leader, DPR Construction | With over 15 years of experience at DPR Construction, Marshall Andrews has displayed a talent and passion for sustainability. He has helped develop in-house estimating tools to calculate the Return on Investment (ROI) for various levels of LEED certification early in the design process, lead educational efforts preparing DPR’s employees to test and receive the LEED AP and TRUE AP certifications, and develop company programs to support zero waste, electrification, and carbon accounting. His diverse onsite project experience includes sustainable construction for colleges, offices, hospitals, biopharmaceuticals, and data centers; including an AIA COTE Top 10 award. As the Northwest Sustainability Leader, Marshall’s early integration has been key for successful execution between various design and construction disciplines.
*Additional speakers to-be-announced. All speakers are subject to change.
