AHC Fall 2024 | Opportunities and Challenges of Healthcare Delivery: A Focus on Rural Healthcare

What opportunities, challenges, and factors are at play when planning and designing healthcare delivery facilities in the rural environment today?

Join the Architecture for Health Committee (AHC) for the annual AHC Fall Conference, exploring a myriad of design hurdles and considerations to make when planning significant new facilities in rural areas. The conference will cover financing and strategic planning aspects, bond/USDA financing program management, master planning, and multi-use facilities in rural areas. Throughout the day, we will also look at specific caregiver design considerations as well as construction challenges.

This program is presented by AIA Seattle’s Architecture for Health Committee. Please contact Anthony Collins with any questions or concerns.

Jeremy is passionate about rural healthcare and his nearly 20 years of healthcare experience brings a unique perspective to the rural healthcare delivery system. In 2016 he was recruited to serve as the CEO for Evanston Regional Hospital, a 42-bed facility, in Evanston, WY. While there, Jeremy was the recipient of the American College of Healthcare Executives (“ACHE”) Early Career Healthcare Executive Regent’s Award, recognizing ACHE members who have significantly contributed toward the advancement of healthcare management excellence. Born and raised in Eastern Oregon, he obtained a degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho and earned a Masters in Health Administration from The Ohio State University. He has successfully recruited 60 new providers in the past five years. Jeremy is currently overseeing the largest facility expansion project in the hospital’s rich 117-year history. He has been recognized twice (2019 and 2023) by Becker’s Hospital Review as one of a select few critical access hospital CEOs to know and is routinely invited by Health Leaders Media to participate in CEO Exchange events.

Michelle Checkis, AIA, Associate Principal, ZGF Architects | Michelle is an architect with experience in a wide variety and scales of project types from healthcare facilities to libraries. Her passion for working on projects that are meaningful on the individual level as well as to the greater community has driven her towards healthcare spaces and, more recently, to resiliency efforts. His passion is leading rural community hospitals to deliver excellent quality care while bringing more care locally to rural communities. Matt graduated from Brigham Young University with a BS in Exercise Physiology and a minor in Business Management.
