AHC Spring 2022: Transitioning Care Delivery and Design

The AIA AHC Spring Conference is a lively, day-long interdisciplinary gathering devoted to emerging trends in healthcare delivery, design, and construction in the Pacific Northwest. This May we will explore emerging opportunities and challenges faced by our clients.  We will identify strategies to transition past thinking into new methods rooted in evidence and value that are directly tied to the populations served.

Behaviors, socioeconomic factors, and the physical environment account for 80% of health. How can we help our clients transform healthcare for better outcomes and improved experiences for patients, families, and staff?  How can we rethink project delivery from architectural design to final turnover from contractor to care team? When we shift our thinking from treating sickness to enhancing well-being, how will solutions that are equitable, sustainable, and thoughtful emerge?  We welcome you to join us in the conversation.

Details to be confirmed closer to the event and sent to all registrants, and may include required proof of vaccination/recent negative PCR test, and/or masking to enter. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

• Explain the principles of population health management including details on how health care providers are working to manage chronic conditions, improve quality care and patient safety.  Explore how public health policies are working to improve public welfare.
• Identify opportunities and explore current best practices to protect occupant safety during the transition from construction to operation including infection control implementation and staff equipment and process training.
• Explore how a recently built community wellness center integrates healthcare services and wellness focused program to  improve care access to the local community.  Understand how the intentional co-location of health and wellness services prioritizes safety and health, and creates enhanced engagement for the dedicated care team through design including ample space for collaboration, respite amenities, natural light, and adaptable exam rooms with ability to adapt care delivery over time.
• Discuss multiple healthcare organizations approach and methods to alternative project delivery and how early and ongoing synergy between owner, architect and contractor enable innovations in equitable and accessible design, efficient infrastructure, and LEAN operations that promote patient and staff safety.
