WID: Feriton Spur Park Expansion Site Tour
Located on the Kirkland segment of the Eastrail, the park expansion features new amenities including a café and bathroom, food gardens, historic reuse elements, a spray park, pickleball, an amphitheater, and public art. Watershed consulted with the CKC History Committee on the incorporation of historical materials and elements.
Learning Objectives
- Analyze the historic elements representative of Kirkland’s industrial and technological history.
- Describe the unique challenges Feriton Spur Park expansion faced during design and construction.
- Examine the working garden space and amenities designed to be sufficient to host a food donation program.
- Evaluate how the design achieves SITES Certification, and the target of SITES Gold.
This live, outdoor, in-person event is produced by AIA Seattle’s Women in Design committee. In accordance with current King County and state of Washington restrictions, masks will be required throughout the program. Since this is a construction site, we will unfortunately not have accessible parking spaces adjacent to the site (dropoffs are encouraged), though there will be an accessible restroom. Feriton Spur Park Expansion on the Cross Kirkland Corridor, SRMKCCA, LLC & City of Kirkland, Kirkland, WA. Watershed is the prime consultant and lead artist for this project to more-than-double the size of an existing park in Kirkland, WA.
Speakers
Amber Mikluscak PLA, GISP, ASLA
Amber, a licensed landscape architect, helps clients visualize and develop context-specific designs that respect natural systems and processes. As manager of The Watershed Company’s landscape architecture department, Amber works collaboratively with private and public clients to create attractive, sustainable, and environmentally-sound designs that achieve development objectives, while minimizing resource impacts. Amber was the Principal in Charge and lead artist for the sculpture.
Marina French PLA
Marina is a landscape architect and restoration designer who specializes in creating ecologically resilient designs that help clients mitigate for project-related impacts and enhance critical area functions. She frequently works with Watershed’s planning department on shoreline restoration projects and is a senior member of the firm’s landscape architecture team. Marina was the Project Manager for this project.
