What is the value of AIA to you?

It’s priceless. I feel having the backing and resources that the AIA has to offer only benefits our firm both through education as well as advocacy. The AIA also provides access to potential clients through their public site where individuals can find Architects with experience in certain project types in specific locations.

Why did you join AIA Seattle?

I joined to access all the benefits and resources that a large organization such as the AIA has to offer. Through AIA Seattle one can engage with a large broad-based group of professionals that care about the profession, as well as the communities and places we live and work. Through AIA Seattle one can also find continuing educational opportunities, review transcripts and easily manage and maintain an architectural license.

What projects are you currently working on?

I am working on several projects and project types including commercial, mid-sized Mixed use residential projects, Townhome and even a large custom residential project. Architecture can be as diverse and exciting as you allow it to be.

What is your favorite Seattle-area structure?

I have several, but must admit that I am most impressed with the transformation of East Lake union, I love everything about that area. I started off my career in 2001 and today its just incredible how different and revitalized it has become.

How do you explain what you do for a living?

I don’t really have to explain what I do for a living because Architecture is somewhat self-explanatory. I do enjoy discussing what I am working on with people and sometimes complaining about the difficulties that one can sometimes run into.

What inspired you today?

Today and everyday I am inspired by where I came from to where I am and am excited to think about where I am headed.

Has you career taken you anywhere you didn’t expect?

Yes, I started off my career in construction and always believed I would be a builder forever. My entire family works in the trades – with my father being a heavy equipment operator, his older brother a plumber, his twin brother a carpenter and his adopted brother an electrician. I worked in and learned basically all of these trades. What I always wanted, but never expected, was to become an architect. Today I am a partner in my firm and am continuously blown away when thinking about where I started to where I am at.
