CAE: Immersive Experience Through Integrated Design - The Louisiana Children's Museum
Following Hurricane Katrina the Louisiana Children’s Museum re-framed its mission to address storm-related trauma, children’s growing disconnection from nature and improve educational outcomes in the State of Louisiana. The Museum developed a new model for children’s museums – one that combines environmental education and colocation of community resources with conventional children’s play elements – uniquely adapted to a new eight acre site in New Orleans City Park. Connecting children to nature and bringing the environment into the museum experience were at the core of the Learning Framework.
The session brings together the client, architect, exhibit designer, learning framework consultant and environmental graphics designer to share how each thread is part of creating the total experience at LCM. Sustainability and resilience strategies, as well as community outreach and educational strategies will be elements of the session. An added part of the educational story has been the use of the museum by a local preschool, while the museum has been closed.
