SIAF: The Case for Dubai - Architecture & Urban History
Dr. John Alexander Smith is an architect and educator based in Dubai where he has co-authored several accredited academic programs in Architecture and Interior Design at various universities in the UAE. He has previously practiced as an architect in Iran, Oman, Malaysia and the United Kingdom. Professor Alexander Smith has been a chartered architect for over thirty years and has a doctorate in Architecture and Landscape Design from the University of Aberdeen.In 1997 he was appointed external examiner to the Ph.D. program in Architecture and Urban Planning at the Ed-inburgh College of Art. In 2003 and 2007 he lectured respectively at Harvard University and Georgia Tech.
Dr. Alexander Smith has published extensively on the architecture, landscape design and urban planning of Dubai and is a knowledgeable and popular contributor to the conferences in the Gulf region. In this webinar, he will share with us on the Architecture and Urban History of Dubai, from ancient history, to influences of the Persians, Islam, and Europeans, until the present time.
