UDF: Urbanizing the Suburbs
Transforming Seattle’s first-ring suburbs for an urban future

As global population becomes ever more urban, America continues to dabble with city life. After a two decades of revitalizing the urban core and experiencing an urban lifestyle, many people are being priced out of the center city, carrying with them the desire to continue traits of this urban lifestyle such as mixed-use neighborhoods, transit access, reduced car dependence, convenience, walkability, bikability, rich culture, creative food and nightlife.
Seeking to meet demand, many suburban areas are applying these urban attributes to shape their growth and re-imagine their built environments through the eyes of the pedestrian. With an expanding transit network, the Puget Sound region is seeing an array of these urbanizing nodes organized around future transit hubs. What does this growth mean for our suburbs, for our regional network population centers? What future awaits?
We will host a panel of Seattle planners, suburban organizers and a local small business owner to discuss their experiences shaping growth in our region’s suburbs. Free beer! Come join us!
