Got Codes? Assembly
This is the third session in the Got Codes? series.
Designing assembly spaces and feeling hampered by the building code? Session 3 of Got Codes? will provide valuable insight into the 2015 Seattle Building Code and how city staff interpret the SBC as it applies to assembly spaces. In a general overview, we will demonstrate how the building and fire code assembly provisions provide increasing life safety protection as occupant loads and fire hazard increase in assembly spaces. We will explore design options for large occupant loads (greater than 500 occupants) including basic concepts for egress models. We will review relevant topics such as occupant load factors; security vs free egress; and structural impacts of assembly live loads in existing buildings. We will highlight code provisions we are seeing designers struggle with meeting in assembly spaces and potential code based solutions.
