Seattle’s 2015 Energy Code & Its Impacts on High-Rise Construction w/ COTE
Seattle officially adopted the new 2015 Seattle Energy Code on Jan. 1, 2017 with additional requirements coming into effect at the beginning of 2018. These changes leave many in the design and construction communities questioning how this code will affect high-rise office and residential projects, especially those with increased glazing. Sellen Construction, PAE Engineers and MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions have analyzed these impacts through energy and cost modeling and have published the results in a recent white paper. In this presentation, we will share our findings from this white paper and provide feedback on how the market is adapting to the new code.

Allan Montpellier, PE, LEED AP | PAE Engineers
Allan is a mechanical engineer and a principal at PAE with more than 20 years of experience and a passion for high-performing buildings. Four of his projects have been awarded the AIA COTE award, 10 of his projects have achieved LEED ratings, and 17 are on the path to ratings from Silver to Platinum. Allan’s work has been featured in Architectural Record, Green Source, Urban Land, and Building Design & Construction, while his projects have won awards from the U.S. General Services Administration, Consulting Specifying Engineer and more.
Bret Lovely | MacDonald Miller Facility Solutions
Bret has over 28 years of experience with estimating, value engineering and the construction of complex mechanical systems. He is a vice president account executive at MacDonald Miller Facility Solution where he advises project teams on energy conservation, building automation, HVAC systems selection and plumbing. From his experience on high-rise office and residential projects in Seattle, Bret brings an understanding how code changes are impacting developers and tenants, changing mechanical costs and influencing systems selection.
