Course Description
Sam Hagerman, founder of general contractor Hammer & Hand and immediate past president of Passive House Alliance US, will present the construction details of H&H’s “Best Practices Manual.” H&H created the manual to guide its practice in the field, but has published it as a resource for design partners and fellow builders. The manual includes 80 pages of full color renderings and diagrams informed by its high performance construction experience in the Pacific NW. Featured by Green Building Advisor, Energy Vanguard, Fine Homebuilding, and Durability+Design.
Learning Objectives
- Compare field-tested construction details with the details already used in participants’ practice, and relative efficacy in managing for water, air, and heat.
- Explore the merits of liquid applied flashing in rough openings and thresholds, and acquire knowledge of specific details that apply the technology.
- Explain how rainscreens should be detailed to maximize wall assembly drying capacity and how/why they work.
- Acquire tools for effective detailing of basements (and many more building elements) to manage for water and heat.
