CAP Collaboration Series: Streets as Places: Design, Stewardship, and Use with SvR Design Company
Join our Corporate Allied Partner SvR Design Company for an hour long Continuing Education class on streets as places.
Course Description
Streets are corridors, connecting people and places and carrying utility infrastructure. Just as importantly, they are also a city’s most essential public space. The best urban streets provide places for people to interact, see community, and feel connection to the city around them. This AIA continuing education discussion will explore the challenge of making meaningful, sustainable places in our public rights of way and focus on design considerations, management concepts, and uses that contribute to lasting success.
Learning Objectives
- Participants will be able to identify competing needs of an existing or proposed urban street for various uses and users.
- Participants will be able to evaluate design, management and maintenance approaches to provide overlapping benefits to defined target uses of an existing or proposed urban street.
- Participants will be able to define relevant metrics for describing and measuring various criteria for performance and success, on an existing or proposed urban street.
- Participants will be able to apply case studies of existing streets to stakeholder conversations about the relationship between right of way improvements and private development.
