CAP Collaboration Series: Mechanical System Selection with MacDonald-Miller

Join our Corporate Allied Partner MacDonald-Miller for an hour long Continuing Education class on Mechanical System Selection.

Course Description

The presentation introduces participants to mechanical system selection from a mechanical contractor’s perspective. Decision factors that a design-build mechanical engineer would consider, such as life cycle cost and sustainability, are addressed, as well as more conventional factors such as first cost, reliability, comfort, and tenant flexibility. Examples of typical conventional and unconventional systems are explored and ranked based on the factors discussed. Some energy conserving measures that can be used with the systems are also explored and their historic performance is presented.

Learning Objectives

  • Participants will be able to identify 6 typical criteria used to rank mechanical systems on a commercial project to determine the best choice considering the project goals.
  • Participants will be able to identify at least 5 conventional and 4 unconventional system types that may be applied in a typical commercial project.
  • Participants will learn how mechanical systems are identified based on their general type, cooling type, and heating type.
  • Participants will be able to identify key architectural impacts of each system type
