First to Unionize: Conversation with Bernheimer Architecture

Join us for a virtual conversation with Bernheimer Architecture, the first privately owned architecture firm in the U.S. to form a labor union.

This one-hour session will explore the process behind their historic unionization, the impact it has had on their practice, and their vision for change within the firm and the wider industry. We will gain first-hand insight into the realities of unionizing in architecture, hear about the successes and challenges faced, and discuss how these experiences might inspire broader conversations about labor and workplace culture in the profession.

Our committee aims to create a safe space for architectural professionals and students to openly discuss labor topics that are often overlooked in the field. Help us by maintaining professionalism, friendliness, and an open mind to explore new ideas.

Monthly Meeting:

The Architecture is Labor Committee meets on the first Monday of every month at 5:30pm. AIA Seattle members, allied members and sponsors are encouraged to join as well as other professionals in the design community.
