May Committee Meeting: Diversity Roundtable @ CAST Architecture
This month, we'll be hearing from CAST Architecture about the Port Gamble S'Klallam Tribe Hatchery and Beach Shelter. The meeting will be available either in-person at their Fremont office or via Zoom.
- Firm and Project Description:
- Founded as a design-build company in 1999, CAST has grown into a 14-person architectural firm whose work ranges from single family homes to multi-family residential and mid-size institutional projects. CAST is committed to achieving positive social impact; over half of our work is with mission-driven organizations, many with a focus on issues of cultural identity.
- Located on land occupied by the tribe since time immemorial, the Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe Hatchery and Beach Shelter combines pragmatic uses with symbolic content. Located on the beach at Point Julia, it is a designated archaeological site, a busy workplace for the Tribe’s commercial fisherman, and a popular recreation area. It is the gateway to S’Klallam lands from the sea. This project recognizes the cultural importance of both the place and the program, while providing practical solutions for both everyday and ceremonial uses.
