Proactive Practice Opening Night Reception - Postponed
"Proactive Practice," the next exhibit @ the Center for Architecture & Design, has been extended into the summer. We hope to celebrate with a Closing Party (date TBD), so stay tuned for more information as we have it!
As speculative development and fast-paced growth transform urban space, architects must not be complacent in service to the market economy. How can we practice architecture as caretakers for our communities and reclaim an active role in the production of space?
Proactive Practice examines how architects self-initiate projects to nurture vibrant and adaptive communities.
Through the lens of five architects’ practices and their progressive work, different models and scales of intervention are presented to encourage us to question the malleability of our environment. This exhibition serves as a call for all creative disciplines to engage as activists in the search for new urban potentialities.
As the recipients of AIA Seattle’s 2019 Emerging Professionals Travel Scholarship, Jackie Hensy Assoc. AIA and Tristan Walker Assoc. AIA traveled to New Orleans, Mexico City, London, and Rotterdam to interview these practices and understand the unique processes and philosophies behind their self-initiated work.
This exhibition was designed in collaboration with Robert Baxter, an independent designer.
Proactive Practice will be on display @ the Center March 5 – July 25, 2020.
