AIA NW WA website 3x2

Hello AIA NWW Members!

March 2024

I hope everyone has had a great first few months of 2024. As we come sprinting out of these dark days and look forward to Daylight Savings (yes, please!) we have some exciting updates to share.

For those that have been members since the early 2000’s, you may remember the tremendous effort the former AIA Northwest Washington Chapter put into producing and distributing the Coloring Book. The Committee has decided it is time to bring this back to life and reinvigorate it with new sketches! We are calling on all firms to provide at least one project to add to the beloved Coloring Book. Here is what we will need from each firm:

A line drawing in black and white (hand sketch or line style rendering):
  • .png file
  • Transparent background
  • 300 dpi minimum
  • Approximately 8” by 8”
Project Information:
  • Project Name
  • Project Location
  • Project Architect
  • Contractor (if available)
  • Description – a few sentences or paragraph
  • Architectural Style
If possible, we’d ask that these projects be in one of our four counties – Whatcom, Skagit, Island, or San Juan – as those using the Coloring Book would be more likely to know of these projects or have a personal connection to them. Firms are welcome to submit sketches of their own projects! If you have questions about this inquiry, please reach out to Lisa Meucci, AIA NWW Program Administrator ( and Christine Baldwin, Committee Chair (

Mark your Calendars! The Steering Committee has been working with local solar panel manufacturer, Silfab Solar, Inc. to coordinate a tour of their local Burlington facility. We are excited to announce that this tour will take place on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM at their facility. Stay tuned for registration info – but note that space is limited!

We are also in the very early stages of planning two other tours for 2024 with both being in our represented counties to showcase the meaningful architecture here at home. We will share more information as we move forward.

Given that we are not having a Design Awards event this year, the Committee is planning for a Fall Social Event that will allow for networking and good ol’ comradery. With our Design Awards event being held in Whatcom County last year, we intend on the Fall Social Event being held in Skagit County. If you have ideas, we would love to hear from you!

We also wanted to highlight a few upcoming non-AIA events our members may be interested in:
Calling all Future Architects! Do you know a local high school student or college student pursuing a degree in architecture? We are always looking for candidates to support in their architectural education and the Committee voted this year to change the requirements in hopes of reaching more students in our communities. If you know a local student, please share the AIA NWW Section Scholarship information with them. The deadline to submit an AIA NWW Scholarship is May 15, 2024. For more information, check out the scholarship section of our webpage.

Are you interested in helping steer our Section? If your answer was yes – we have been looking for you! The Steering Committee is actively seeking another member to add to our group of seven. If you are interested, please reach out to Christine Baldwin ( for more details.

Please feel free to share this news with others and encourage them to sign up to receive our newsletter and check out the AIA NWW webpage.
