The Seattle Department of Construction and Inspections (SDCI) Engineering Services Division (ES) is recruiting to fill two Technical Codes Manager positions to serve on the Construction Review and Inspection Quality (CRIQ) Team. These positions provide technical leadership under the direction of the Principal Engineer and Building Official. Duties include resolving technical issues and shaping policies in the Seattle construction codes. One manager will be focused on structural issues, and the other will be focused on fire/life-safety (non-structural) building code issues.
Technical Codes Managers serve as advisors in the strategic planning and strategic initiatives of the City. The focus of the work is the planning, analysis and coordination of technical codes plan review for SDCI Engineering Services. Technical Codes Managers serve as key advisors to senior officials, make recommendations which help shape significant City policies or programs, and represent the City in strategic arenas.
Technical Codes Managers provide technical advice and expertise for policy and regulatory level decision-making for SDCI executives, the Mayor, and Council. Technical Codes Managers may serve on cross functional, cross-jurisdictional and interdepartmental teams as required to support the interests of the department and the City. They are accountable for technical leadership of ES staff, working collaboratively with ES managers who provide the day-to-day operational support for the same staff.
