Johnston Architects

Johnston Architects was born from a desire to create exceptional architecture through intelligent, conscientious, and sustainable design. From two designers at its inception in 1991 to 30 employees today, JA has emerged as a premier Pacific Northwest design firm and an innovative leader in firm practice. From our studio at the Northwest Work Lofts – and working remotely throughout the Northwest – we are currently designing numerous single-family homes, public libraries, multifamily and mixed-use housing developments, arts facilities, community centers, and serving as On Call Architects for the City of Seattle, Seattle Center, and Sno-Isle Libraries.

JA’s leadership is shaped by our founding partners’ commitment to bettering the world around them. These values are reflected in our staff as we promote diversity, equity, and social justice within our firm, in our communities, and through our work. Johnston Architects is a Women-Owned Business: our staff is 2/3 women, and women make up 73% of firm leadership.

As part of our commitment to bettering the world around us and providing a transparent and equitable work environment, we are a member of the JUST program. This label is a voluntary disclosure tool using specific, measurable criteria to recognize organizations for a wide range of social accountability relating to hiring practices, employee benefits, community outreach, and local investment. We use this label to highlight our current practices and serve as a road map for further growth and engagement.
