YAF & WID Happy Hour Series | INTERACTIONS | August at Mithun

Join the Young Architects Forum (YAF) & Women in Design (WiD) for a special installment of their monthly happy hour series, collaborating with the Committee on the Environment, and featuring a presentation by Zack Semke of Passive House Accelerator.

Zack Semke is co-founder and director of the Passive House Accelerator, host of the Reimagine Buildings Collective, co-host of the Passive House Podcast, and a member of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps. He has spent more than fifteen years connecting the dots between building science, energy economics, and climate policy — making the case that buildings are central to the clean energy transition, and building community around that work. Named a New York Build Construction Idol in 2023, Zack has collaborated with Mithun on sustainable initiatives and is a great example of how a firm can interact with a subject matter expert to improve their work and share their lessons with a wide audience.

Zack will be presenting on the clean energy transition. Why are buildings still the bottleneck — and what does that mean for the architects and firms positioned to act? Zack Semke connects the dots between energy economics, building science, and a few lessons from turkeys and chessboards to argue that this messy moment is exactly when buildings matter most.
