SIAF | Bringing People Together – Designing Cultural Projects Overseas
This in-person-only event, titled “Bringing People Together – Designing Cultural Projects Overseas,” invites the Seattle architecture community to hear from practitioners working across continents on cultural and civic projects of global impact.
LMN Architects will share the story of their Convention and Exhibition Centre Expansion in Perth, Australia, a project that redefines how large-scale venues can foster civic life and international exchange, which is schedule to be finished in 2030. Representing LMN will be Stephen DeMayo, Cameron Irwin, Michael Day, and Enol Vallina, who will discuss the design process, challenges of working overseas, and lessons learned from delivering a complex public facility in a rapidly growing city. Complementing LMN’s presentation, Kun Lim, Principal of Kun Lim Studio, will present his design for the Tzu Chi Campus in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia—a project that integrates architecture, landscape, and community values into a holistic environment for education and cultural gathering. Rounding out the presentations, Brittany Damper and Jessie Cosgrove of Elevate Structures will discuss their company’s work on educational, hospitality, and multi-family projects.
Together, these talks will highlight how design can transcend borders, respond to diverse cultural contexts, and bring people together through shared spaces.
This program includes continuing education credit (1 AIA LU pending). All sessions and speakers are subject to change.
