WID: Guided Tour of CitizenM Hotel

A European brand hotel built for the business traveler. All 264 guest rooms have been prefabricated off site in a European manufacturing facility which reduced construction by three months compared to traditional building methods. The prefabrication process significantly reduces pollution and waste associated with construction.

Learning Objectives

  • Analyze the technology and sustainability goals of the citizenM Hotel
  • Describe the unique challenges or achievements the pre-fabrication process used on the citizenM Hotel project faced during design and construction in Seattle
  • Examine how the citizenM hotel is expected to perform in the hospitality market.
  • Evaluate if the citizenM construction design and deliver process will change the construction industry.

Speakers

Sukyee Pang AIA LEED AP BD+C, Associate at Gensler Seattle
A registered architect and certified construction document technologist, Sukyee has over 20 years of experience collaborating, creating unique architectural designs and construction projects. Her passion in building technologies and construction methods is reflected on her abilities to be able to successfully engage on both large, complex projects to small, intricate designs. As an associate at Gensler, she has been instrumental in their technical design including the citizenM South Lake Union project for the past 3 years.

Cress Wakefield, PE, LEED AP, Senior Electrical Engineer & Project Manager at Arup
Cress Wakefield is an Associate, project manager, and senior electrical engineer in Arup’s Seattle office. She has 20 years of experience in the design of electrical systems for a variety of projects, from commercial and higher education to research labs and museums. She is the lead electrical engineer on the citizenM South Lake Union Hotel project. A few other notable local projects include the Space Needle Renovation, Pike Place MarketFront, Seattle Opera at the Center, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Headquarters.

Lucas Whitesell, PE, Structural Engineer at Arup
Lucas Whitesell, PE is a structural engineer in Arup’s Seattle office. Lucas has engineered the seismic design of new buildings and non-building structures as well as investigation and alteration of existing building structures in high seismic regions. Lucas is a structural engineer on the citizenM South Lake Union Hotel and the recently completed F5 Tower in Seattle. He has also contributed to seismic and risk resilience studies at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC.
