Cracking Code: Commercial Energy Code Update
This is the second session in the 2020 Cracking Code series presented by AIA Seattle’s Codes Committee.
The Washington State and Seattle commercial energy codes going into effect this year contain significant changes geared towards meeting ambitious carbon reduction targets. In addition, state laws regarding existing building performance standards and the global warming potential of refrigerants and insulation are coming into force. This seminar reviews the most significant changes and their impacts on projects under the Washington state and Seattle codes, for both new construction and alteration projects. Where the code provides design options, we will explore the pros and cons of each selection, and the practical solutions for cost, constructability, and business development. The seminar will conclude with a look at potential future directions for building performance.
