CAP Collaboration Series: Making the Case for Rainwater Harvesting with SvR Design Company

Join our Corporate Allied Partner SvR Design Company for an hour long Continuing Education class on rainwater harvesting systems.

Course Description

This one hour session will focus on the benefits and costs of rainwater harvesting systems. Participants will review current regulations, consider a variety of harvesting system configurations, explore simple modeling tools and examine optimal systems for reduction in domestic water use. This session will explore the design process for sizing systems, associated costs and financial benefits resulting from properly design rainwater harvesting systems.

Learning Objectives

  • Distinguish between relevant regulations and guidelines associated with common rainwater harvesting systems, including the variety of agency reviews related to the reuse of harvested rainwater
  • Participants will be able to describe a variety of system components necessary for rainwater harvesting and reuse of water, including storage options, filtration and pumps.
  • Comprehend rainwater modeling techniques, including wet and dry year impacts, timesteps, and the source of on-line information.
  • Determine optimal rainwater harvesting system sizes based on initial construction costs and potential future water savings. Optimizing techniques will be demonstrated on a variety of building scales.
